The Brussels Region is planning to take away one lane of traffic on Rue Belliard to make room for a two-way bike path. EUCG has studied the plans and given its feedback especially on how to improve the situation for the lower part of Belliard, between the European Parliament esplanade and Chaussée d’Etterbeek. In the initial plans there had been no room for a two-way bike path here due to the combined bus-bike lane between the tunnel and Parc Léopold. This would have meant that cyclists wanting to go up Belliard from Chaussée d’Etterbeek would have had to make a long detour to join the bike path on Belliard a couple of crossings further up the hill. The Region is now studying alternative options following EUCG suggestions. We will keep you posted.
